Starting Christmas Before Thanksgiving

img_20161115_190616

Tonight I am starting Christmas before Thanksgiving by listening to Sting’s album If On A Winters Night, eating kettle corn, making funnel cake dusted with powdered sugar and topped with berries, and making a poster for a Christmas party happening in a few weeks.

In the next few days I’ll start putting up decorations and lights. After Thanksgiving I’ll be looking for a nice little cat friendly tree to decorate. This year, I’m slowing ramping up the Christmas celebration rather than avoiding it until the last two weeks of December.

VR in 2016 is not ready

VR in 2016 is not ready. I pre-ordered an Oculus Rift and eagerly awaited it for 7 months as Oculus experienced manufacturing and logistical issues. After one month of regular use, it has sat in my closet untouched since. I think the technology is in place and available, but VR in 2016 is not ready. Why is VR not ready this year? There is no must-play VR game. There is no must-see VR experience. There is no compelling reason to purchase a VR device today.

I hope someone is hard at work making an ubiquitous snow-crash-esq VR experience that compels everyone to rush to the stores to buy VR rigs, but 2016 was not the year where VR became the big thing. It might be the next big thing, but not this year.

Hot Chocolate Friday

Although it seems like every day is a day for hot chocolate, taking a break from work to go for a walk and have a hot chocolate on Friday is a nice benefit of working from home.
